انقل أقوال الآخرين وأسئلتهم وطلباتهم، واعرف متى يتغير الزمن.

عندما ننقل كلام شخص ما لاحقًا، نستخدم عادةً فعل نقل مثل say أو tell أو ask. وإذا كان فعل النقل في الماضي، فغالبًا يرجع الفعل في الجملة المنقولة خطوة واحدة إلى الوراء في الزمن.

تتغير الضمائر وكلمات الزمن أيضًا لتناسب الموقف الجديد: today تصبح that day، وtomorrow تصبح the next day أو the following day، وhere تصبح there، وago تصبح before.

say وtell وask

Tell تحتاج إلى شخص كمفعول به، أما say فلا. الأسئلة المنقولة تستخدم ترتيب الجملة الخبرية ولا علامة استفهام. استخدم if أو whether لأسئلة نعم/لا. ولنقل الطلبات والأوامر استخدم ask أو tell + شخص + to + المصدر.

  • Mateo told me (that) he was moving to Chile.
  • Mateo said (that) he was moving to Chile.
  • She asked me where I lived.
  • He asked if I had a pen.
  • The coach told us not to be late.
