รายงานประโยคบอกเล่า คำถาม และคำขอของผู้อื่น และรู้ว่าเมื่อใดกาลเปลี่ยน
เมื่อเรารายงานคำพูดของใครในภายหลัง เรามักใช้กริยารายงาน เช่น say, tell หรือ ask หากกริยารายงานอยู่ในอดีต กริยาในอนุประโยคที่รายงานมักถอยหลังไปหนึ่งกาล

สรรพนามและคำบอกเวลาก็เปลี่ยนให้เข้ากับสถานการณ์ใหม่ด้วย: today เป็น that day, tomorrow เป็น the next day หรือ the following day, here เป็น there และ ago เป็น before
Say, tell และ ask
Tell ต้องมีบุคคลเป็นกรรม ส่วน say ไม่ต้อง คำถามที่รายงานใช้ลำดับคำแบบประโยคบอกเล่าและไม่มีเครื่องหมายคำถาม ใช้ if หรือ whether กับคำถามแบบ yes/no หากต้องการรายงานคำขอและคำสั่ง ให้ใช้ ask หรือ tell + บุคคล + to + infinitive
- Mateo told me (that) he was moving to Chile.
- Mateo said (that) he was moving to Chile.
- She asked me where I lived.
- He asked if I had a pen.
- The coach told us not to be late.

"Do you like spicy food?" Priya asked me spicy food.
"Please close the window." The teacher asked us the window.
"I'll send you the photos tomorrow." Sam said he me the photos the next day.
"We're leaving tomorrow," Ali said on Sunday. On Sunday, Ali said they were leaving the day.
The guide (say / tell) us that the castle was closed.
"Where did you buy that jacket?" Nina asked me where I that jacket.
