Discorso indiretto

Reported speech

Riporta le affermazioni, le domande e le richieste di altre persone e scopri quando cambia il tempo verbale.

Quando riportiamo le parole di qualcuno in seguito, di solito usiamo un verbo introduttivo come say, tell o ask. Se il verbo introduttivo è al passato, il verbo della frase riportata spesso torna indietro di un passo nel tempo.

Anche i pronomi e le espressioni di tempo cambiano per adattarsi alla nuova situazione: today diventa that day, tomorrow diventa the next day o the following day, here diventa there e ago diventa before.

Say, tell e ask

Tell richiede una persona come complemento; say no. Le domande indirette usano l'ordine normale delle parole di una frase affermativa e non hanno il punto interrogativo. Usa if o whether per le domande sì/no. Per riportare richieste e ordini, usa ask o tell + persona + to + infinito.

  • Mateo told me (that) he was moving to Chile.
  • Mateo said (that) he was moving to Chile.
  • She asked me where I lived.
  • He asked if I had a pen.
  • The coach told us not to be late.
