분사구문과 축약절

Participle clauses and reduced clauses

-ing, -ed, 완료 분사구문으로 글을 더 간결하게 만들고, 현수 분사를 피합니다.

분사구문은 더 긴 절을 분사로 대체하므로 문장이 더 짧고 우아해집니다. 접속사 없이 시간, 이유, 결과, 묘사를 나타내는 고급 글쓰기의 특징입니다. 핵심 규칙은 subject of the participle clause must be the same as the subject of the main clause, 즉 분사구문의 주어가 주절의 주어와 같아야 한다는 것입니다.

축약된 관계절

관계절은 관계대명사와 조동사를 없애서 줄일 수 있습니다. The woman who is sitting by the window는 the woman sitting by the window가 되고, the paintings that were damaged in the flood는 the paintings damaged in the flood가 됩니다. 능동의 의미에는 -ing형을, 수동의 의미에는 -ed형을 사용합니다.

  • Faced with a tight deadline, the team worked through the weekend.
  • The delegates opposing the proposal were asked to submit forms.
  • Written in a hurry, the letter contained several errors.
  • Not wanting to be late, she took a taxi.
