اربط الأفكار وقدّم معلومات إضافية عن الأشخاص والأشياء والأماكن في جملة واحدة.

جملة الصلة تقدّم معلومات عن اسم. تأتي مباشرة بعد الاسم وتساعدنا على ربط جملتين قصيرتين في جملة واحدة: I have a friend. She speaks five languages. تصبح I have a friend who speaks five languages.

في هذه الجمل، تحدد جملة الصلة بالضبط أي شخص أو شيء أو مكان نقصده. نسميها جمل الصلة المحدِّدة، ولا توجد فيها فواصل.

هل يمكننا حذف الكلمة؟

عندما تكون who أو which أو that مفعولًا به في الجملة (أي يأتي بعدها فاعل آخر)، يمكننا حذفها. وعندما تكون فاعلًا في الجملة، يجب إبقاؤها. وإذا كانت الجملة تضيف معلومات إضافية فقط، نضعها بين فاصلتين ولا يمكننا استخدام that.

The film (that) we watched last night was very long. (object: you can leave it out)
The man who called you is waiting outside. (subject: it must stay)
This is the town where my grandmother grew up.
Kofi, who works at the hospital, is very busy this week. (extra information, with commas)
