関係詞節：who, which, that, where
Relative clauses: who, which, that, where
人、物、場所についての情報を加えて、考えを1つの文にまとめます。
関係詞節は名詞についての情報を加えます。名詞のすぐ後ろに置き、2つの短い文を1つにまとめるのに役立ちます。I have a friend. She speaks five languages. は I have a friend who speaks five languages. になります。

これらの文では、関係詞節が、どの人、物、場所のことなのかをはっきり示しています。これを限定用法の節と呼び、コンマは使いません。
関係詞は省略できる？
who、which、that が節の目的語であるとき（その後ろに別の主語が来るとき）は、省略できます。節の主語であるときは、省略できません。節が補足的な情報を加えるだけの場合は、コンマで区切り、that は使えません。
- The film (that) we watched last night was very long. (object: you can leave it out)
- The man who called you is waiting outside. (subject: it must stay)
- This is the town where my grandmother grew up.
- Kofi, who works at the hospital, is very busy this week. (extra information, with commas)
