First and second conditionals
พูดถึงความเป็นไปได้จริงในอนาคตและสถานการณ์สมมติในปัจจุบัน
ประโยค conditional มีสองส่วน คือ if-clause (เงื่อนไข) และ main clause (ผลลัพธ์) กาลที่เราเลือกแสดงว่าสถานการณ์นั้นเป็นจริงหรือมีโอกาสเกิดขึ้นมากเพียงใด

ใน conditional แบบที่ 2 รูปอดีตไม่ได้หมายถึงเวลาในอดีต แต่แสดงถึงระยะห่างจากความเป็นจริง กับ be เรามักใช้ were กับทุกบุคคล โดยเฉพาะในภาษาอังกฤษที่ระมัดระวัง If I were you, I would... เป็นวิธีให้คำแนะนำที่พบบ่อย If I was ก็พบบ่อยในการพูดในชีวิตประจำวัน
เปรียบเทียบ: If I get the job, I'll move to Lisbon. (I've had an interview, so it's possible.) If I got a job in Lisbon, I'd move there. (I'm not looking for one. It's just an idea.)
ลำดับคำและคำอื่น ๆ ที่มีประโยชน์
if-clause จะอยู่ก่อนหรือหลังก็ได้ ใช้เครื่องหมายจุลภาคเมื่ออยู่ก่อน คุณใช้ unless เพื่อหมายถึง if not และใช้ might หรือ could ใน main clause เมื่อผลลัพธ์ไม่แน่นอนนัก
- We'll miss the bus if we don't leave now.
- Unless you hurry, you'll be late.
- If Ravi had more free time, he could learn the guitar.
- What would you do if you found a wallet in the street?
