Conditional pertama dan kedua

First and second conditionals

Bicarakan kemungkinan nyata di masa depan dan situasi khayalan di masa sekarang.

Kalimat conditional punya dua bagian: if-clause (syarat) dan main clause (hasil). Tense yang kita pilih menunjukkan seberapa nyata atau mungkin situasinya.

Dalam conditional kedua, bentuk lampau tidak berarti waktu lampau. Bentuk ini menunjukkan jarak dari kenyataan. Dengan be, kita sering memakai were untuk setiap orang, terutama dalam bahasa Inggris yang cermat. If I were you, I would... adalah cara umum untuk memberi saran. If I was juga umum dalam percakapan sehari-hari.

Bandingkan: If I get the job, I'll move to Lisbon. (I've had an interview, so it's possible.) If I got a job in Lisbon, I'd move there. (I'm not looking for one. It's just an idea.)

Urutan kata dan kata berguna lainnya

If-clause bisa diletakkan di awal atau di akhir. Pakai koma jika if-clause di awal. Kamu bisa memakai unless untuk berarti if not, dan might atau could dalam main clause ketika hasilnya kurang pasti.

  • We'll miss the bus if we don't leave now.
  • Unless you hurry, you'll be late.
  • If Ravi had more free time, he could learn the guitar.
  • What would you do if you found a wallet in the street?
