부정 부사구, so, such 뒤의 도치

Inversion after negative adverbials, so and such

부정·제한을 나타내는 문장 앞 표현 뒤와 so, such 뒤에서 조동사를 주어 앞에 둡니다.

negative or restrictive adverbial(부정 또는 제한의 부사구)로 문장이 시작하면 조동사가 의문문처럼 in front of the subject, 즉 주어 앞으로 이동합니다. 이는 격식 있고 극적이거나 문학적인 효과를 주며 학술적인 글과 연설에서 흔합니다. 동사에 조동사가 없으면 do, does or did를 추가합니다. 같은 도치는 절을 시작하는 so + adjective와 such + be 뒤에서도 일어납니다.

which clause is inverted, 즉 어느 절이 도치되는지에 주의하세요. not until이나 only when 뒤에서는 시간절은 일반적인 어순을 유지하고 주절이 도치됩니다. *Not until the results arrived did the team understand the problem.* no sooner 뒤에는 than을, hardly와 scarcely 뒤에는 when(또는 before)을 사용합니다.

  • Only after the data had been checked did the team publish it.
