Verbo + -ing o to + infinitivo
Verb + -ing or to + infinitive
| Estructura | Verbos comunes | Ejemplo |
|---|---|---|
| verb + -ing | enjoy, finish, mind, avoid, suggest, keep, practise, consider, miss | Jamal enjoys running in the morning. |
| verb + to + infinitive | want, hope, decide, plan, agree, refuse, learn, offer, promise, need | We decided to stay at home. |
| both, with little change in meaning | like, love, hate, prefer, start, begin, continue | It started raining. / It started to rain. |
Después de preposiciones y como sujeto
Después de una preposición como about, of, at, in, for, without, before o after, usa siempre la forma -ing.
- Lena is good at drawing.
- Thanks for helping me.
- Swimming is my favourite way to relax.
- Ravi left without saying goodbye.
- Would you mind opening the window?
- Sofia hopes to study medicine next year.
Un verbo que cambia de significado
Con stop, la estructura cambia el significado. Stop + -ing significa que ya no haces algo: She stopped eating meat last year. We stopped to buy some water on the way.
