동사 + -ing 또는 to + 동사원형
Verb + -ing or to + infinitive
어떤 동사 뒤에 -ing 형태가 오고 어떤 동사 뒤에 to + 동사원형이 오는지 배웁니다.
한 동사 뒤에 다른 동사가 올 때, 두 번째 동사는 -ing form(I enjoy cooking) 또는 to + infinitive(I want to cook)입니다. 어느 쪽인지는 첫 번째 동사에 따라 정해지므로 동사를 묶음으로 익히면 도움이 됩니다.

전치사 뒤와 주어 자리
about, of, at, in, for, without, before, after 같은 전치사 뒤에는 항상 -ing 형태를 씁니다. 활동이 문장의 주어일 때도 -ing 형태를 씁니다.
- Lena is good at drawing.
- Thanks for helping me.
- Swimming is my favourite way to relax.
- Ravi left without saying goodbye.
- Would you mind opening the window?
- Sofia hopes to study medicine next year.
의미가 달라지는 동사
stop은 패턴에 따라 의미가 달라집니다. Stop + -ing는 더 이상 어떤 일을 하지 않는다는 뜻입니다: She stopped eating meat last year. Stop + to + infinitive는 다른 일을 하기 위해 하던 일을 멈춘다는 뜻입니다: We stopped to buy some water on the way.
