The passive: present and past

Gunakan passive ketika tindakan atau hasilnya lebih penting daripada orang yang melakukannya.

Dalam kalimat aktif, subjek melakukan tindakan: Farmers grow rice in this valley. Dalam kalimat pasif, subjek menerima tindakan: Rice is grown in this valley. Kita memakai passive ketika kita tidak tahu siapa yang melakukan sesuatu, ketika sudah jelas, atau ketika tidak penting.

Untuk menyebutkan siapa yang melakukan tindakan, pakai by: The song was written by a teenager from Nairobi. Tambahkan by + orang hanya jika informasi ini baru atau menarik. Kalimat seperti My bag was found by someone terdengar aneh, karena someone tidak menambah informasi.

Passive umum dipakai dalam berita, pengumuman, petunjuk, dan penjelasan proses. Bentuk ini membantu penulis berfokus pada apa yang terjadi dan pada hasilnya.
