- owner

Answer key
- It was raining hard when Daniel left the restaurant.“Raining hard”: listen for the -ing. “Left the” sounds like “lef-the”; the t almost disappears.
- He took a black umbrella from the stand by the door.“Took a” links: “too-ka”. “By the door” tells you where the umbrella was.
- On the way home, he noticed it had a red handle.“Noticed it” runs together. “Had a” is weak: “ha-da”.
- His own umbrella had a plain wooden one.“One” here means “handle”, so you do not hear the noun again.
- He walked back in the rain to find the owner.“Walked back”: the -ed is a t sound that joins “back”.
