Using the site
Joy English is free to use for personal learning. An account is optional. Please do not disrupt the service, for example by sending automated or excessive requests, trying to bypass its security or collecting lessons in bulk. Requests that exceed reasonable limits may be slowed or refused.
Your account
You can create one account with your email address or by continuing with Google. Keep your password private and do not use it on other websites. You can delete your account at any time on your account page. We may suspend an account that is used to disrupt the service or to harm other people.
Lesson content and licences
Material from VOA Learning English is in the public domain. Stories from African Storybook are used under the Creative Commons Attribution licence shown on each lesson; if you reuse them, follow that licence and credit the original authors. Our explanations, vocabulary notes, original lessons and the design of this website belong to Joy English unless a lesson states a different licence.
Practice results
Answer checking, suggested levels and completion messages support self-study. They do not certify your English level or replace an official exam.
Links to other websites
Lessons link to their original sources. Those websites have their own terms and privacy practices, which apply when you visit them.
Availability and changes
We may add, correct or remove lessons and change features. When a lesson is corrected, it gets a new version and your saved progress for the old version may no longer appear. We work to keep the site accurate and available but cannot promise that it will always be error-free or uninterrupted.

We will update this page when these terms change. The date at the top shows the latest version.
