  1. The young lady had been Maxwell’s secretary for a year.“Had been… for a year” is the past perfect with a time period.
  2. There was a question about her in his mind.“In his mind” means in his thoughts.
  3. Several are coming to talk to us this morning.“Are coming” describes a plan for today.
  4. Every storm was felt in the broker’s office.“Was felt” is passive. A storm here means trouble in the market.
  5. He was always ready to decide and to act.“Ready to” is followed by infinitives.
