- Thank you for seeing me, Professor; I am afraid my thesis argument has become more tangled than I intended.“I am afraid” は悪い知らせを丁寧に伝える言い方です。“Thesis” は軽い th の音で始まります。
- That is hardly unusual at this stage, but tell me, what do you want the reader to take away?“Hardly unusual” は「ごく普通」という意味です。ここでの “Take away” は「主なメッセージとして覚えておく」という意味の句動詞です。
