Although와 despite는 예상 밖의 결과를 나타냅니다. 하나를 예상했는데 다른 일이 일어납니다. Whereas와 while은 서로 다른 두 사실을 단순히 비교할 뿐이며 의외성은 없습니다. Even though는 although보다 강합니다. Though는 더 구어체이며 문장 끝에도 올 수 있습니다: The test was hard. I passed, though.
