現在形か現在進行形か

Present simple or present continuous

習慣や事実には現在形、今起こっている行動には現在進行形を選びます。

英語には現在を表す時制が2つあります。present simple（現在形）は、習慣、日課、いつも変わらない事実に使います。present continuous（現在進行形）（am / is / are ＋動詞の -ing 形）は、今、またはその前後の時期に起こっている行動や、一時的な状況に使います。

状態動詞

動詞の中には、行動ではなく状態を表すものがあります。今のことを言うときでも、普通は現在形を使います：like、love、hate、want、need、know、understand、remember、believe、own。I know the answer. と言い、I am knowing the answer とは言いません。

  • Aiko usually walks to school, but today she is taking the bus because it is raining.
  • Listen! Someone is playing the piano upstairs.
  • Water boils at 100 degrees Celsius.
  • I don't understand this question. Can you help me?
  • My cousin is staying with us until Friday.
