Expressing opinions and arguments

claim, evidence, whereas, admittedly처럼 토론과 에세이에 쓰는 단어와 연결 표현을 배웁니다.

토론이나 에세이에서는 I think라고 말하는 것만으로는 충분하지 않습니다. 관점을 제시하고, 이유로 뒷받침하고, 다른 관점과 비교하고, 그 약점도 인정해야 합니다. 이 단어들은 명확하고 균형 잡힌 주장을 만드는 데 도움이 됩니다.

argue동사: 주장하다; 무언가가 사실이라고 생각하는 이유를 제시하다Some teachers argue that homework should be optional.
claim동사: 주장하다; 흔히 증거를 제시하지 않고 무언가가 사실이라고 말하다The advert claims that the cream removes wrinkles in a week.
point of view명사: 관점; 어떤 상황을 바라보는 특정한 방식From a parent's point of view, the new timetable is more convenient.
in favour of표현: 찬성하는; 어떤 생각이나 계획을 지지하는Most students were in favour of a longer lunch break.
evidence명사: 증거; 무언가가 사실인지 보여 주는 사실이나 정보There is little evidence that the new diet works.
convincing형용사: 설득력 있는; 무언가가 사실이라고 믿게 만드는She gave a convincing explanation for the delay.
valid형용사: 타당한; 좋은 이유에 근거하여 받아들일 가치가 있는You make a valid point about the cost.
biased형용사: 편향된; 한쪽을 다른 쪽보다 부당하게 지지하는The survey was biased because it only asked people who already agreed.
persuade동사: 설득하다; 이유를 들어 누군가가 무언가를 하는 데 동의하게 만들다Aiko persuaded her parents to let her study abroad.
on the other hand연결 표현: 반면에; 대조되는 요점을 소개할 때 쓰는 표현City life is exciting. On the other hand, it can be very expensive.
whereas접속사: 반면; 서로 다른 두 사실을 비교할 때 쓰는 말Kofi works best early in the morning, whereas his sister prefers to work at night.
admittedly부사: 인정하건대; 논지를 약하게 하더라도 무언가가 사실임을 인정할 때 쓰는 말Admittedly, the plan is expensive, but it will save money in the long term.
